After the rough winter we’ve had, lawn care is a must. Clear your yard of sticks, trim bushes, weed gardens and clean up along pathways and around the front porch.  Rosemarie advises, “Take a critical look at the exterior of the home and touch up any paint and/or repair any damage. Clear up the area around the front door — replacing your house numbers is an easy way to spruce up this area.  First impressions are critical!”

Clean All Floors

Polish hardwood floors, shine up tile, and consider hiring a professional carpet cleaner if necessary in high traffic areas. “If you have hardwood floors under old carpet, consider pulling it up,” Rosemarie adds.  “Dated and/or worn carpet can be a big detractor.”

Update Decor and Fixtures

Believe it or not, small things like outdated lighting fixtures, can reduce your home’s appeal. Talk with your real estate agent about little changes that can add big appeal to your interior without breaking your budget.  “Sometimes simply changing out cabinet knobs and drawer pulls can make a big difference,” says Rosemarie.

Be Smart with Renovations

That being said, don’t make the mistake of completing multiple large-scale renovations prior to putting your home on the market. “Keep in mind that with any remodel, you only recoup a fraction of the cost,” explains Rosemarie. “I work with my clients to determine which upgrades are truly necessary.”

Depersonalize and Declutter

“I cannot stress enough the importance of decluttering your home,” says Rosemarie, adding “Neat and uncluttered rooms, walls, and countertops, with minimal personal items, gives buyers the best opportunity to imagine the space as their own.”
